Scottish Archaeology Month for Schools!

Children dressed in Iron Age costume

Scottish Archaeology Month (SAM) is a festival of free archaeology events which takes place each September all over Scotland. This year, to celebrate the Homecoming, Archaeology Scotland is inviting every school in Scotland to take part in SAM for Schools!

Archaeology is about discovering the past by looking at the clues people have left behind them - objects, buildings and marks on the landscape. Archaeologists are like time detectives, using a mixture of scientific investigation, historical knowledge and imagination to help build up a picture of life in times gone by.

Whether it’s by dressing up as a Viking, trying out some Iron-Age recipes, surveying your playground or burying a ‘time capsule’ for future archaeologists to find, there are many exciting ways to celebrate archaeology in Scotland.
