Discover Scotland's past this September!

Scottish Archaeology Month (SAM) is Archaeology Scotland’s contribution to the Homecoming celebrations. It also forms Scotland’s contribution (along with Doors Open Days) to the European Heritage Days initiative.

SAM events allow young people to get close to sites, monuments and artefacts which would not normally be accessible to the public.  All sorts of people organise activities, from professional archaeologists to local amateur heritage groups and individuals with an interest in their local history.

This year there will be an estimated 24,000 visitors taking part in numerous guided walks, exhibitions, excavation open-days and workshops all over Scotland. Why not get your school involved in the programme of SAM schools events throughout Scotland?

Find out how studying archaeology promotes interdisciplinary learning and makes effective links between different subject areas.
