Walden Media has taken Dick King-Smith’s book and broadened its scope to fit the demands of the big screen.

The company explains:

'It is our hope that this story about friendship, a child’s loneliness, and the power of belief will have many children asking the adults in their lives, ‘Is the Water Horse real?’ We also hope 'The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep' encourages children - and adults - to ignore the sceptics and the practical-minded and to join forces with the imaginative and the hopeful.'

'The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep' features special effects from Weta Digital and Weta Workshop, the Oscar-winning effects company behind the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and Peter Jackson’s 'King Kong'.

Walden Media’s previous movies include 'Holes', 'Charlotte’s Web' and 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. In 2008 they will release 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian'.

• Craig Hall as Charlie MacMorrow
• Emmy Award® winner Brian Cox ('Nuremberg', 'The Bourne Identity', 'X-Men 2'), who plays the adult Angus MacMorrow.
