Notre Dame High School sent in the following details of its Homecoming activities...
As part of our participation in the Homecoming celebrations of Scotland's great contributions to the world we are holding a Hint of Tartan Day. The main focus of the day will be on Robert Burns and his 250th birth anniversary on Sunday 25th January.
Events of the day will include:
Hint of Tartan - all staff and pupils wear a hint of tartan and contribute 50p as the forfeit for the privilege! Kilts may be worn.
Mini-Burns Supper - held at lunch time and open to all staff and S5/S6. The format will follow the traditional Burns Supper as closely as possible, including piping in the haggis, (piper from Strathclyde Police Pipe band).
Address to the Haggis, the various toasts and reply on behalf of the 'lassies', given by the Head Girl in S6, and some singing and dancing entertainment. The meal itself will consist of broth, haggis, neeps and tatties and conclude with white chocolate cheesecake, shortbread and tablet.
We are currently running an online What's your favourite Burns poem? poll (To A Mouse currently in the lead) and a variety of other entertainments.
The Enterprise class in S6, lead by the school's EEO, are making tartan ribbon pins which can be bought on the day. School catering in the dining-hall is offering a Burns Supper as the main part of the menu. This is a whole-school event with particular cross-curricular contributions from English, Home Economics, Performing Arts, Enterprise and Senior Leadership Team.
We are all really looking forward to the day!
