Polar Pairs is an international partnership, set up by Living Earth.
Linking with schools on the North Slope of Alaska, Alford Academy is seeking to explore cultural connections and curricular exchange. We are setting up a live video link with partner schools in Alaska to coincide with Burns' Night celebrations at Alford. This national celebration offers an appropriate opening context for a further exchange of cultural work, Burns's writing being full of universal themes, rightly celebrated all over the world.
We're busy setting the Burns' Night event and our IT centre is aiming to share it via a webcast.
We're also planning to invite Kenny Taylor, a published author and naturalist who is an experienced Arctic traveller. His insight and experience will offer an interesting focus for study. He will speak to classes, targeting biology, English and Social subjects. He is also a keen musician and will perform on the evening, singing Burns's 'Green Grow the rashes, O'.
