Aberhill Primary School sent in the following details of its Homecoming activities...

We are planning (or have just had!) the following activities:

  • P1 Scottish Fairy tales told in Scots dialect, and a taster session of haggis, neeps, tatties and homemade shortbread (made by the P1s).
  • P2 poetry afternoon for parents, with an art exhibition of Scottish art by the children.
  • P3 Scots afternoon.
  • P4 - P7 had a Scots literacy focus

And for later this term:

  • A week of Scottish focus tasks culminating in a Scottish day, even including school dinners and traditional playground games!
  • A community ceilidh with live traditional music provided by members of staff and friends.

Also planned is a concert of traditional music by the Fife Strathspey and Reel Society, with the Boys' Choir performing as guest artistes.

The two primary 6 classes decided to organise our Ceilidh as an enterprise project. The ceilidh itself was a wonderful experience, with live music provided by staff and colleagues from the instrumental service. The children organised and ran the whole event, raising more than £1000 for Maggie's Centre, a local charity which supports those affected by Cancer. Everyone involved had a great evening, and already there are calls for another Ceilidh on an even bigger scale!!
