A world of learning at National Museums Scotland

National Museums Scotland (NMS) welcomes schools, teachers and pupils to enjoy a range of superb collections at its five museums. It offers rich resources for learning and teaching, with a full programme of workshops and activities for schools, CPD opportunities, outreach, online resources and support for self-led class visits for subjects and topics across age ranges and curriculum areas.
World-class museums

NMS is the country's national museum service. Its collections cover archaeology, Scottish history, technology, art and design, fashion, science and technology, and world cultures. There are five museum sites which open to the public, each showing different parts of the collections:
- the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh
- the National Museum of Costume near Dumfries
- the National Museum of Flight at East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian
- the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride
- the National War Museum Scotland in Edinburgh Castle.
Schools at National Museums Scotland
NMS supports schools, teachers and learners in using all its services and resources:
- free admission for all booked school groups
- free object-handling sessions
- workshops and events
- preview sessions and CPD events for teachers
- bookable lunch and/or cloakroom facilities at all museums
- online learning resources.
NMS offers rich resources for learning and teaching, with a full programme of activities for schools, CPD opportunities, outreach resources, online access and plenty of support for self-led class visits.
