Visit the Scottish Archives for Schools website to find out about learning and teaching opportunities for teachers and pupils offered by the National Archives of Scotland (NAS) education service in support of Curriculum for Excellence. 

NAS holds historical records created by government, businesses, landed estates, families, churches and other bodies dating from the 12th to the 21st centuries. These include charters, official reports, letters, diaries, maps, plans and photographs. 

Access online resources and a wide range of digitised material which support cross-curricular learning and National Qualifications.

Workshops and CPD events

National Archives of Scotland

The National Archives of Scotland offers a programme of free workshops for pupils from P4-S6. The workshops are held in General Register House in central Edinburgh. Topics include ‘What happens in an Archive?’, the Act of Union and the Second World War. Download a copy of the programme from the Workshops area on the SAfS website.

Education staff also offer CPD events for teachers, giving advice and practical sessions on using archive material in the classroom.

Videoconferencing

NAS has videoconferencing facilities in General Register House. All of our workshops can be delivered using this technology. If you would like to take advantage of this service, please contact us for further discussions.
