Telling the story

Newbattle High school aimed to enhance leadership for both staff and pupils, to develop excellence in Arts and Sports and to provide additional pupil support to improve self esteem. A very successful initiative called “Peak Performance” enables pupils to work together throughout the year, using different skills, to produce a series of school performances.  Interests in S2 are nurtured through involvement in specialist subject areas (such as Media studies or Music), and opportunities for leadership and teamwork skills for both staff and pupils are presented though involvement both in these and in specialist Sports, Art and a new Mathematics Academies in S3. 

Enhancing and celebrating pupil achievement is also promoted through the 1000 X 1000 exhibition which features a piece of work from every pupil, and a Newbattle Teacher Learning Community has formed, offering peer support for developing AifL and Active learning techniques.
