Telling the story

Offering all its pupils a personalised curriculum to better fit their needs, talents and abilities was the main driver behind Islay High School’s Transformational Plan.

Consulting widely with parents and the local community, the school has created an innovative new timetable to maximise choice, and has greatly increased the enterprise education and the vocational opportunities open to its pupils. The young people at Islay HS also benefit from a curriculum broadened by the introduction of ‘Co Curricular Activities’ which offers pupils a wide range of courses, from archaeology, to film studies, to conversational Spanish. The use of innovative IT has been embedded in learning and teaching and proving very successful and popular with pupils.
