Telling the story

As part of a wider ambition to enhance the school ethos though community involvement, and the provision of skills relevant to today’s school leavers, Inverness High have established a Community Interest Company to direct Social Enterprises specialising in growing and selling horticultural produce in a number of different local markets.  As a direct result, courses have been established for pupils in Rural skills, Community involvement, and an in-house retail training programme. Additional learning outcomes include Health promotion, the development of business/employability skills, and ICT expertise. The success and interest in the project is reflected in a recent royal visit and the winning of the Schools Social Enterprise award in 2008. Future plans include the development of food processing and community allotments.
