Telling the story
Cardinal Newman High School, as part of its wider aim to, 'become an enhanced enterprise comprehensive', has worked intensively with a number of partners, including colleges and local businesses, to introduce a diverse range of vocational opportunities within the school. These include Professional Cookery, Construction, Horticulture, Digital Photography, Rural Skills, and various SVQs in Hospitality. These vocational opportunities are offered to pupils of all abilities, with the success of the programme witnessed by the high number of S3 and S4 pupils who have taken a vocational option (40%).
The school has also focused on leadership, with 80% of the staff involved in developments. A student Leadership Academy has led to students taking on enhanced roles in primary liaison, enterprise and school improvement.
