Young Engineers & Science Clubs Scotland

Author Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS)
Description

Young Engineers Clubs offer an opportunity for pupils to experience the rewards and challenges of a career in science, engineering and technology.

Learning objectives

The Clubs are aimed at Primary and Secondary school pupils who are curious about science, engineering and technology. They adopt a very hands-on approach to projects in electrical, electronic, mechanical, robotics and civil engineering and technology.

Pupils get the opportunity to test their problem-solving skills in a team environment, so that everyone contributes to the project. The majority of clubs start up after the October break, running either at lunchtimes or as an after-school activity.

Benefits

  • Pupils develop creative and innovative skills working alongside real engineers.
  • Clubs are invited to compete for the 'Young Engineers Club of the Year' title at the annual Showcase and Technology Challenge Event.
  • Industrial visits are encouraged during the club session.
  • Girls are positively encouraged to become members.
  • All club members receive a 'Certificate of Participation'.
