Sowing the Poppy seed - Poppyscotland's Education Project

Description

The aim of 'Sowing the Poppy seed - Poppyscotland's education project', is to create a comprehensive interdisciplinary learning experience that highlights the importance of remembrance, veterans and the poppy.  The materials are based around the central key question 'Why is it important to remember?' with four other big questions to stimulate learning and teaching.

Poppyscotland is continuing to grow its education project in 2009 with the following developments:

  • New materials for children aged 3 to 8. This includes new planning documents, challenges and teacher’s notes.

  • New materials for early, first and second levels linked to the growing of poppies from seeds - promotional packets of poppy seeds are available to order.

  • Updated planning documents for teachers, linked to Curriculum for Excellence.

  • Additional archive footage covering the First Gulf War and remembrance.

  • A new set of four education posters for every school in Scotland.

  • A poetry competition open to Scottish primary and secondary schools. (Closing date: 30th November 2009)
