| Description | ![]() A report which presents the findings of a systematic review of the research literature, in order to identify the factors that promote participation in education after the age of 16 among young people from minority ethnic groups. The researchers considered 68 research studies in total, and summarised information relating to factors that either promote or inhibit participation in post-16 education for young people from minority ethnic groups. The review found a range of factors that appear to promote this group’s participation in post-16 education. For instance, the Education Maintenance Allowance was found to be effective at encouraging participation, especially among black students. In addition, high quality school staff, along with a supportive environment, were also important in encouraging participation in education. A young person’s individual aspirations for the future, in relation to economic gain and career advancement, were also found to be important. |
