A document by the Curriculum Review Programme Board published in March 2006, which reported on the developments of Curriculum for Excellence since its launch in November 2004.

It reflects 15 months of consultations and stimulating discussions with thousands of educational staff around the country from the extensive process of engagement with colleagues in schools and education authorities and groups representing key stakeholders in Scottish education.

The Board made proposals where there was a clear body of evidence or principles which justified them, and it identified areas for further consideration where wider engagement was needed to inform the thinking.

The document:

  • described progress and the main findings of the activities so far
  • provided a narrative on the direction of travel, outlining recommended features of the curriculum in the future
  • outlined aspects where more thinking was required
  • was intended to stimulate the next stage of professional discussion and reflection, as part of the continuing process of shaping and influencing the curriculum.

It included an outline timetable and more detail on the results of the review process to that point, including a rationale for science.
