The following aims incorporate all three of Highland Council's pilot projects (Charleston, Fortrose and Nairn):
Increase the PE time in the schools towards 120 minutes of high quality PE for all children. This will be measured against baseline data being collected for the SEED survey.
Allow for more choice in secondary schools by utilising PE teachers, specialist coaches and dancers to engage pupils in a wider variety of activities from which they can choose. The types of additional activities will be decided through discussion with headteachers.
Further develop strong links to the Active Schools out-of-hours programmes, develop increased use of school and community facilities and enhance the pathways to club sport for participation and performance. This will better join up the curriculum to out-of-hours activity in communities for young people.
Develop area-based CPD programmes for primary classroom teachers, PE specialists and Active Schools co-ordinators.
Provide and further develop immersion programmes for interested primary class teachers to take on a specialism as has successfully operated under CCR arrangements.
Develop a secondary and primary APG team approach to physical education to make the link between primary and secondary schools to ease transition and provide a consistent curriculum pathway.
