The Education and Children’s Services provides an education service through six secondary schools, 35 primary schools, four nursery schools and 18 nursery partnership providers.
East Lothian Council’s Sport and Education Advisory Group (East Lothian’s strategic vehicle for Sport and Physical Activity in schools) was asked by the Council's Education Committee to consider the information contained within the National PE Review Group Report (2004).
The group then determined the actions that could be taken to ensure that the report’s recommendations were adopted as far as possible and in line with East Lothian's own policies and commitments, including identifying the implications of these actions and who would be responsible for the actions.
In June 2005 the Executive released a pocket of funding for 2005-06. East Lothian Council was invited to pilot the secondary element of the recommendations linked to the National PE Review Report: the appointment of six sport and physical activity co-ordinators, one for each secondary school.
