Physical Education

Conclusion

Conclusion (Charleston, Fortrose and Nairn community school groupings)

The schools involved in the pilots fully embraced the additional PE and began to recognise the importance of PE, valuing it along with subjects such as maths and English. It is this fundamental objective for PE to be valued by the headteachers and class teachers that will raise the profile of PE in schools. Developing the confidence for teachers to deliver PE and providing support with CPD is vital to achieve this.

It is also crucial to join up provision by linking PE taught in schools to the Active Schools programme of activities, and to connect and develop the pathways to community and club involvement in physical activity and sport to ensure that children have healthy and active lifestyles.

The secondary-based, primary-focused model, with its aim to ease transition and to develop links from the primary cluster to the secondary school, is of prime importance to the development of a coherent 3-18 PE curriculum.
