What’s on offer at the National Physical Education Conference?

The conference consists of a keynote address, national updates, workshops and an exhibition providing delegates with the opportunity for professional development, sharing of best practice and exploring new ideas for the classroom.

Keynote presentation

Alan Mclean, Chartered Educational Psychologist with Glasgow City Council will present ‘Promoting Motivational Resilience within Physical Education’.

National updates

Keep abreast of the National Updates from: Dr Matthew Lowther, Scottish Government; Donnie Macleod, HMIE; Morna Crombie, Curriculum for Excellence; Mike Jess, Association for Physical Education Scotland; Nick Morgan, Glow; Maggie Murray, Active Schools, Sportscotland; and Dr John Sproule, Senior Lecturer/Course Leader PGDE Physical Education, University of Edinburgh.

Workshops

Delegates will have the opportunity to select from a range of practical workshops showcasing alternative non-traditional activities. There will also be a range of seminar style workshops showcasing good and interesting practice from around the country.

Why is the National Physical Education Conference so important?

The purpose of the conference is to build on the success of the 2006 National Physical Education Conference and continue to support and enhance the physical education profession by:

  • disseminating and sharing good practice
  • updating and engaging the profession with current national developments
  • provide inspiration and new ideas
  • an opportunity to network with peers.

The ethos of the conference is to provide a stimulating and positive environment that will update and challenge delegates. It also aims to encourage delegates to listen, reflect and discuss their own practice to provide ideas and the impetus to move physical education forward.


Who is the conference aimed at?

The conference is open to anyone who has an interest in or is concerned with the delivery of physical education.

The keynotes and workshops will cater for teachers, senior management and local education authority managers, and improvement officers from the nursery, primary, secondary and special educational sectors.

The conference has been made possible with funding from Learning and Teaching Scotland and is free to all educational professionals with an interest in physical education.


Who organises the National Physical Education Conference?

The National Physical Education Conference is organised by Learning and Teaching Scotland.

Learning and Teaching Scotland is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Scottish Government Education Department, with a remit to:

  • actively promote a climate of innovation, ambition and excellence throughout the Scottish education system
  • support teachers, schools and local authorities in improving the quality of education and raising levels of achievement of all learners
  • ensure that the curriculum and approaches to learning and teaching, including the use of ICT, assist children and young people in Scotland to develop their full potential
  • work in close partnership with the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders to build capacity and support the delivery of a first-class education that is recognised as such nationally and international.
