Since the Personal Support in Schools project started, the Implementation Team has come across many examples of good and interesting practice in Scotland's schools.

A short film was commissioned to showcase the variety of approaches to personal support, to assist with CPD sessions, and to illustrate what the 10 standards may look like in practice.

The film was launched at the first National Personal Support Conference in May 2007, and has since been used as part of authority and school in-service.  The feedback has very positive and it has been allowed staff to engage in some excellent discussion.

Please view the video and also consider the reflective questions below.

Reflective questions

"We need teachers who can learn from them as well as teach them."  What do you think you should be learning from your pupils and why?

Good links and relationships with the community it serves are features of an excellent school.  What can a school do to build up god community links and relationships?

"Happy children make successful learners."  What should an excellent school be doing to help pupils to be happy in ways that will positively affect their learning?

What features of personal support in primary, secondary and special schools have you seen in the film that give you ideas for what could happen in your school and how they might work?

We hope you will find it a valuable resource and if you have any comments you would like to make after using the film please contact Jane Clifford.
