National Parent Forum

What is the National Parent Forum?

The National Parent Forum is being set up to give Parent Councils an opportunity to discuss and raise issues of mutual interest or concern at a national level.

In a survey, 79 per cent of Parent Councils expressed their desire to see parents' views represented at a national level. A National Parent Forum, proposed Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning was agreed to at a conference for parents and Parent Councils on 13 June 2009.

How can I get involved?

The first meeting of the National Parent Forum will take place at the Radisson Hotel, in Glasgow on Saturday 21 November.

Each local authority has been asked to encourage one representative from their area to attend the first meeting. Parent Councils across Scotland have received a nomination form.

In the longer term, it will be up to parents to decide how the Forum is structured and how it operates.

What if I'm not selected?

There are other ways of getting involved. A National Parents’ Glow Group is being set up to support the sharing of information and gathering of ideas from parents. More details will be available on this shortly.

If you are not selected to attend, you could find out who your local representative is and suggest ideas for them to put forward.
