Introduction

The Government is seeking to change the qualifications system to bring it into line with the ideas behind Curriculum for Excellence. The video link  on this page gives some more information. A consultation was held between June and October 2008 on a set of proposals for changing the system.

The full consultation document can be found on the Scottish Government website. The Government has also produced a short leaflet giving more details about it.

The consultation received around 1800 responses with a wide range of opinions represented.

The findings of the NQ research have recently been published and are available as a downloadable PDF on the Scottish Government website.

As a result of the additional implementation year which has been agreed for Curriculum for Excellence, the new exams will now be taken for the first time in 2014. As the children who are currently in Primary 6 are likely to be the first to experience the new Secondary Curriculum in full, they will be the first to require access to the next generation of qualifications from 2014.
