If your child often takes time off school, they risk falling behind. Missing school can often make it difficult for a child to catch up, causing them to lose confidence. It can affect their progress through school, and make it difficult to make the move to adult life.
The Scottish Government have published a poster and booklet, called A guide for parents about school attendence, which explain your responsibilities as a parent when it comes to your child's attendance at school.
Illness. Truancy. Family problems. There are lots of reasons why your child may miss school. The good news is you can get help from the school or the education authority. In fact, many schools and education authorities have workers who specialise in helping families to get children attending school regularly.
Worried about approaching the school or education authority? Many authorities now have a mediation and advocacy service for parents.
