Definitions

In general, expressions used in the Act and in this guidance have the same meaning as that given to them by section 135 of the 1980 Act, as amended. The one exception relates to ‘pupil’ which includes a child who is under school age if that child is in attendance at a local authority primary school, whether or not the child is in a nursery class in the school. Some other expressions used in the guidance are explained in the glossary.
