The summer programme organised by the Busby Nursery Class Parents’ Support Group was funded through a start-up grant from East Renfrewshire Council, and was planned with a health, fitness and wellbeing focus. Parents contributed £5 per family.
The programme was held at Busby Primary School over four mornings during July. In total 137 participants took part and organisers gathered parents’ opinions at the end:
- The parent workshops were well received, the majority of parents indicating that they enjoyed them very much.
- 26 parents found the date of the summer programme very suitable.
- 31 parents noted that it was very suitable to have the event at Busby Primary.
- In response to the question 'Which things made you want to take part in this event?'
- 28 cited the activities for them and for their children
- 14 wanted to meet other parents
- 23 liked having time for themselves
- 14 thought it was important to show their children that they could learn and try new activities as well
- 17 participated because the programme provided a crèche facility
- None had taken part in a family event before.
Organisers used the feedback to inform future activities.
