Since opening its doors for the first time, Anstruther Primary School - a new build PPP school which resulted from the amalgamation of two Fife schools - has built up a programme of OSHL activity which has at its core the involvement of pupils, staff, parents and the local community.
The range of activities is impressive, including a variety of sports and expressive arts activities, as well as chess and a major drama production at the end of each school year. The pupils have been directly involved in running the OSHL programme. For example, when a new football kit was to be ordered, a group of young footballers chose the new kit and filled in the order forms independently of staff.
The school has, over its short life, developed a well rounded programme of OSHL which is inclusive and engages with the local community in a very positive and mutually beneficial way.
'OSHL is a very important part of what we do: it is part of the umbrella of opportunities for parents and children to contribute to and be part of the life of the school. Without OSHL the school would not be the same place.'
