'Rich tasks', developed in Queensland, Australia, are multidisciplinary and relate skills and learning to real life. There are great similarities between rich tasks and what is hoped will be achieved in Scotland through Curriculum for Excellence.

The Malawi project is a small pilot project exploring teaching and consolidating maths through rich tasks. It was initiated in Inverclyde in January 2008.
