About the project

The transition project started in May 2006. The specific area of Problem Solving and Enquiry was chosen as the New Learning Community, of which the participating schools were a part, had identified the need for continuity and progression in this area of the curriculum. The approach to the project was refined using an audit tool within the HMIE publication titled ‘Ensuring Effective Transitions’.

The schools involved in the project were Mosspark Primary School, Lorne Street Primary School and Bellahouston Academy.

Project aims

  • To improve continuity and progression for pupils in the methodology for teaching problem solving in P7 and S1.
  • To support improved links between P7 and S1 teachers and pupils.
  • To support pupils to develop key attributes of the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence.
  • To support pupils to develop lifelong learning skills, for example perseverance, social interaction.
  • To provide a sense of challenge and enjoyment for pupils in relation to problem solving through the use of teaching for effective learning strategies.
  • To better support pupils to recognise, appropriately choose, and use a variety of problem solving strategies.

It was agreed that the following would be created:

  • A pre- and post-project pupil questionnaire
