A series of 10 Numbers Count posters and postcards has been sent to schools across Scotland. Numbers Count is designed to show how important numbers are in everyday life and work.
We have chosen 10 people from all walks of life to appear in Numbers Count. Each poster and postcard contains number facts, so they can be used as teaching aids, enhancing numeracy across the curriculum.
It is hoped that the posters and postcards will generate interest in numbers and stimulate discussion about the importance of numeracy.
With this in mind, we have added a number of interesting lesson ideas that tie in with each poster and postcard.
A new Secret Codes learning resource has been developed. This introduces codes and codebreaking with a series of practical fun activities.
Two national numeracy competitions were run to coincide with the Numbers Count posters and postcards.
Code GREEN was intended for primary pupils and Code RED was aimed at secondary pupils. Pupils had to solve a number of puzzles and then crack a coded secret message to enter a draw to win a £250 token to buy problem solving material for their school.
The competition is now closed and the winner will be announced shortly.
Please take a few minutes to fill in a short questionnaire and let us know your thoughts about numeracy resources.
Your feedback will be invaluable as we create new learning and teaching resources.
