Code RED

The 'Code RED' national numeracy competition was launched in relation to the ten Numbers Count posters and postcards that have been sent to all state-funded schools in Scotland.

The Code consists of nine puzzles suitable for secondary pupils. Pupils had to solve each puzzle correctly which would present them with a set of nine numbers. These numbers could then be deciphered to find the nine letter secret message.

The secret message from Code RED is a word that relates to Scottish mathematics. The nine letter word will be more familiar to mathematics students in the senior school.

The Code RED clue can be used to verify the nine letter word as the number 260 is significant to the overall solution.

The competition is now closed, however, the Code RED resource can still be used as an enjoyable approach to teaching numeracy.
