This is a selection of accessible resources to support teachers and pupils who would like to know more about Scottish traditional music. Published material includes background reading, tune and song collections, and recordings. Information is given in no particular order of merit, and readers are advised to browse widely as well as seek out specialist items. Publishers and record companies are very knowledgeable and are usually happy to advise.
Scotland has many organisations which support the learning and performance of traditional music. Many will be glad to recommend sources of information nationally and locally.
Wherever possible, get to know musicians in your local area!
Traditional Music & Song Association of Scotland - listings, festivals, competitions etc
School of Scottish Studies at Edinburgh University - online access to material from archives
Musicinscotland.com - gig guide, other info
Celtic Music - BBC Scotland website
Scottish Music Centre - supports Scottish music of all types. The Centres music collection contains over 20,000 items including recordings, scores, song and tune collections and books and articles about music. Many are available for sale and/or hire and the Centres catalogue is searchable online.
