Mrs MacLeod of Raasay is a very well known reel. It has an octave range and is usually written in the key of A major. In this version, the tune us transposed into D major to offer a more manageable vocal range. Mrs MacLeod has an inconclusive ending, finishing on the second note of the scale instead of returning to the tonic. This suggests returning to the start of the tune, or going on to another. Tunes of this type are sometimes called “circular” tunes.
