Chamber music

A string quintet of two violins, two violas and a cello

General information

The following pages cover instrumental music for:

  • small groups

  • solo instruments

Most music in early times was performed by small groups and it was not until the Baroque period that an 'Orchestras' first appeared and even then these could often be quite small ensembles of instruments.

This topic based approach allows a student to follow this style of music from around 1550 to current musical trends.
