Guides to National Qualifications

Two guides provide basic information about National Qualifications (NQs) in Scotland and explain the range of qualifications available. They are suitable for parents, carers, learners, adults returning to education and anyone interested in knowing more about NQs. 

They have been produced jointly by the Scottish Qualifications Authority, Learning and Teaching Scotland, the Scottish Further Education Unit and the Scottish Executive, following a recommendation of the National Qualifications Assessment Support Group (NQASG). Printed copies are being distributed throughout Scotland to various organisations including secondary schools, colleges, careers offices and libraries.

Employers' guide

SQA

The SQA is the national body in Scotland responsible for the development, accreditation, assessment and certification of qualifications other than degrees.

Scottish Further Education Unit (SFEU)

The SFEU works in partnership with FE colleges to support the provision of high quality post-school education.

Scottish Government Education Department (SEED)

SEED is responsible for administering policy on pre-school and school education. It provides the overall policy framework for NQs including the school curriculum and assessment structure.
