The Scottish curriculum is currently going through a national review called Curriculum for Excellence with the aim of developing a streamlined curriculum for 3-18-year-olds and implementing new approaches to assessment.
The purposes of the curriculum, underpinning A Curriculum for Excellence, are to enable all young people to become:

- openness to new thinking and ideas

- use literacy, communication and numeracy skills
- use technology for learning
- think creatively and independently
- learn independently and as part of a group
