New Teachers

Preparation and timescales

What can I do now to prepare for Curriculum for Excellence?

It would be a good idea to think hard about your own personal values and how these fit with those of Curriculum for Excellence.

Then ask yourself:

  • How will Curriculum for Excellence translate into practice in my classroom?

  • How can I ensure that my future teaching style contributes to the four capacities?

  • How can I ensure that my lessons include:

    -  challenge and enjoyment
    -  depth
    -  personalisation and choice
    -  relevance?

The Word file: 'Starter Kit' (36KB) and Word file: 'Reflection Kit' (71KB) are available from the website and provide further suggestions for thinking about the values, purposes and principles of the new curriculum.
