Children in Europe conference - Life changes: supporting transitions

The saying goes that 'a change is as good as a rest', but there are times when we all need some extra support to adjust to new situations.

Children experience many big changes during their formative years as they move between different educational and care settings. This conference will explore how parents, carers and practitioners from across the sector – including health, education and social work – can work together to make these transitions seamless and manageable for young people.

Leading international and UK experts will consider transitions in early years from home to childcare and from pre-school to school, as well as the many other transitions that children may experience in this key period.

This day-long conference will provide an unparalleled opportunity to hear from policy makers and practitioners from around Europe on how to improve transitions across the following areas:

  • challenges around leaving home into services
  • the role and relationship of parents and carers in successful transitions
  • school readiness and the transition from nursery to primary
  • workforce development
  • transitions and the effect for multi-agency working.

Confirmed keynote speakers include Bill Maxwell, newly appointed Chief Executive, Education Scotland. Other speakers will be joining us from Switzerland, Italy and Denmark as well as experts from the UK. The conference will be chaired by Carol Kirk, Corporate Director, Education and Skills, North Ayrshire Council.
