A new resource pack for pupils in S1 and S2 which supports learning about China, the land and its people has been launched in North Lanarkshire.
The pack is accompanied by CDs with Mandarin teaching lessons. In line with the new Curriculum for Excellence, it offers teachers of different subjects the opportunity to plan together across all areas of the curriculum.
Jim Logue, Convener of Learning and Leisure, said: 'China, along with other emerging markets like Brazil and India, will play a huge role in the global economy for decades to come. It’s important that our pupils are aware of the language and culture of other countries to widen their future horizons.'
The launch also featured the work of Our Lady’s High School and showcased North Lanarkshire’s Confucius Hub which is based at the school. One of eight in Scotland, the Hub provides a central learning point for Chinese culture and language.
The council has a wide range of resources on China and works in partnership with the Burrell Collection, Glasgow, Ricefields and The China Club.
'I witness China' was launched on 31 August 2010 by North Lanarkshire Council’s Learning and Leisure Services.
