Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) has launched a set of exciting new resources to support teaching staff and practitioners in the delivery of Higher Dance.
Designed as a series of video clips, the resources have been created to assist both learners and teachers in improving their knowledge, skill and understanding of three dance techniques - classical, contemporary and jazz.
LTS commissioned two dance students from Reid Kerr College and Scottish Ballet to demonstrate a variety of dance moves, poses and exercises for the videos.
Leeanne Dobbie, who at the time of filming was studying for a dance artist HND at Reid Kerr, demonstrated the jazz and contemporary techniques. Leeanne says: 'I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. Hopefully the resource will increase the popularity of dance amongst school pupils as it provides great emotional and physical benefits.'
In addition to the clips, there is literature available for teaching staff and students that supports the use of the videos as well as guiding learners through the requirements of the practical assignments for Higher Dance.
The videos and supporting documents are now available to view and download on the NQ website at www.ltscotland.org.uk/nq/resources/higherdancepractice
Each video focuses on basic alignment for the three techniques and is followed by a series of exercises comprising the core components of a class, including plies, runs and leaps.
Esther Cairney, leader of the National Qualifications team at LTS, says: 'We’re extremely excited about the publication of these innovative and stimulating Higher Dance resources. They have been specially designed to be of use to both learners and practitioners and we’re confident that visitors to the website will find the video clips and supporting material hugely informative.'
