Curriculum for Excellence - Supporting the Early Level

New materials are being produced which will help embed Curriculum for Excellence, Scotland's new approach to learning and teaching, in pre-school and primary settings, it was announced on Tuesday 9 June.

Children's Minister Adam Ingram revealed that a new DVD training resource - Curriculum for Excellence, Supporting the Early Level - will be produced in the autumn to help those working with Scotland's youngest learners to apply the new approach.

Mr Ingram made the announcement at the HMIE/LTS Curriculum for Excellence Good Practice Conference 'The Early Years Framework: Putting the Vision into Action', at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow.

About the DVD training resource

'Curriculum for Excellence - Supporting the Early Level' will be delivered to every pre-school and primary setting in Scotland in autumn 2009. The resource:

  • shares practical ideas
  • shows a variety of settings
  • supports practitioners
  • builds on strengths.

The DVD resource will help you to:

  • review the background to Curriculum for Excellence and reflect on why it is time for change
  • investigate what the values, purposes and principles are, and how practitioners can capitalise on approaches to make learning relevant, motivating and fun
  • consider how working across the eight curriculum areas will support meaningful learning by providing opportunities for creative experiences, play and active learning
  • explore film clips of practitioners in a variety of settings and see how they are already implementing the new curriculum
  • explore useful publications, websites and the accompanying CPD booklet.
