The Press and Journal reports that on Friday 21 August budding scientists and mathematicians embarked on an oil and gas industry challenge as part of a project to put their skills into practice.
Eighty-nine S6 pupils from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire are taking part in Stem in the Pipeline, a three-month science and technology project which will see them work closely with the sector.
The teenagers visited Aberdeen University where young professionals who work in the industry led them through a day of practical workshops looking at geology, drilling, reservoirs, processing and finance.
The pupils will be encouraged to come up with fresh solutions to scenarios the oil and gas industry may face, with the best projects being awarded prizes. They will present their final brief at an assessment day in December in front of representatives from the sector.
