This year, the FISAB (Financial Services Advisory Board) annual report showcased the resource 'On the Money' as an example of good practice in the field of financial education and corporate responsibility.

On 27 May 2008, pupils from St Philomena’s Primary School in Glasgow performed a drama based on 'No Change', one of the stories from 'On the Money'. The author of the story, Jonathan Meres, was also present to introduce St Philomena’s performance.

The audience included John Swinney, Cabinet Secretary for Finance, who took the opportunity to chat with the children after their performance. St Philomena’s pupils and teachers have been involved with the development of 'On the Money' from the very beginning of the project and were very keen to share their thoughts with both Mr Swinney and Jim Lally, Director of SCFE.

'On the Money' is the result of a partnership project between Scottish Book Trust, Scottish Centre for Financial Education (at Learning and Teaching Scotland) and Standard Life. Stories from some of Scotland’s best children’s authors (Theresa Breslin, Jonathan Meres, Nicola Morgan and Alison Prince) have been used to convey messages about financial responsibility. The aim in producing this resource is to encourage a change of attitudes and behaviours regarding money by creating a project which addresses both literacy and numeracy. This resource allows teachers to take forward Curriculum for Excellence through providing a forum to develop the four capacities in our young people.
