Review of Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Handbook

10 September 2008

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Handbook is currently being reviewed. As part of this review the SCQF is consulting with stakeholders to find out how they use the current handbook in their organisations and to gather views on appropriate content and format of a revised version of the handbook. In addition, the SCQF would be interested in having details of examples of best practice in applying the SCQF which could be included in the handbook or presented as additional support information on the SCQF website.

What is the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework ?

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) promotes lifelong learning in Scotland. The Framework enables individuals to find out about all mainstream qualifications in Scotland to plan their future learning. The Framework supports everyone in Scotland including learning providers and employers.

What is the purpose of the SCQF Handbook?

The SCQF Handbook is a technical document which is used by all credit rating bodies to assign a level and credit to qualifications and assessed formal, non-formal and informal learning programmes to enable them to be entered into the SCQF Framework.

Why is the handbook being reviewed?

Over the past seven years the usage of the handbook has increased dramatically and now people from various sectors are using it for many different reasons. Alongside these developments in Scotland there have also been many developments within the other frameworks in the UK and in Europe which may impact on the SCQF guidelines.

How can you contribute to the consultation?

The SCQF would welcome your contribution to the review of the handbook, which can be found at: SCQF Handbook Review
