A competition that will help school pupils learn about the NHS in Scotland and encourage them to think about developments in healthcare over the next 60 years is being led jointly by Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) and the Scottish Government.

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing Nicola Sturgeon launched the competition at the beginning of the new school term at Elder Park Primary in Govan, Glasgow on 5 September 2008.

The writing competition will ask P6, P7, S1 and S2 pupils to develop ideas on what they think the NHS will look like in 2068. They will be expected to consider the past but also apply some thought to new technology that may be available and how people in Scotland will access healthcare.

For inspiration, they can interview family and friends, conduct factual research via the internet and their local library, watch sci-fi television programmes and films or visit the NHS 60th anniversary website.

See the competition page on the anniversary website for further information.
