Scotland Reads – the Edinburgh Story wins Standard Life Edinburgh Achievement Award

25 November 2008

Scotland Reads – The Edinburgh Story has won the Partnerships in Practice award category in the 2008 Standard Life Edinburgh Achievement Awards.

Applicants in this award category had to demonstrate how a partnership between City of Edinburgh Children and Families staff and others had successfully benefited individuals or groups.

Scotland Reads – The Edinburgh Story was created in conjunction with partners Learning and Teaching Scotland and Project Scotland, who recruited young volunteers to be placed in schools for 25 hours a week. Volunteers were given extensive training in Paired Reading and were involved in other areas such as enterprise, citizenship and PSD. Seven schools, 80 students and 10 volunteers were involved. The results included increased attainment, motivation, confidence and enjoyment of reading.

This was an extremely successful partnership project with real impact on everyone involved.
