Follow-up survey of school leavers 2006-07

The Scottish Government has published statistics on the follow-up destinations of young people who left school in school year 2006-07.

This is the first time that this information has been published. It provides information on young people's status in March-April 2008, approximately nine months after leaving school.

The main findings from the publication show that of the school leavers in 2006-07:

  • 87% were in positive destinations in March/April 2008
  • 47.9% were in higher or further education in March/April 2008 
  • 38.8% were in employment or training in March/April 2008 
  • the proportion who were not in employment, education or training or voluntary work in March/April 2008 was 13%
  • the proportion who were in a positive destination in both September 2007 and March/April 2008 was 80.3% with a further 12.5% in a positive destination in one of the two periods
  • only 6.8% were not in a positive destination in both September 2007 and March/April 2008.
