The Scottish Government is seeking responses to a set of new draft regulations on adoption.
The new regulations are required because those made under the 1978 Adoption Act will be repealed when that Act is replaced by the new Adoption and Children (Scotland) Act 2007, and they will restate, amend, extend and improve the existing regulations.
The 2007 Act introduces a range of reforms in the law relating to adoption of, and permanent care for, children who cannot remain with their birth families.
The Act and the draft regulations were shaped with reference to the 2005 report from the Adoption Policy Review Group called Adoption: Better Choices for Our Children.
The Scottish Government will be undertaking a rolling programme of consultations on the draft regulations.
