Higher Dance Practice

These videos are designed to support learning in Higher Dance Practice. Each clip will support learners to improve knowledge, skill and understanding of accurate technique for classical, contemporary and jazz dance. The videos focus on basic alignment for each technique.

Classical dance videos

View movement and technique for classical dance. Learn about poses, barre work, turnout, positions of the feet, posture alignment and centre. See demonstrations that include pliƩs, battements tendus, ronds de jambes and grands battements. Finally, observe several complete enchainements which demonstrate the above techniques with the aid of music.

Contemporary dance videos

The focus of contemporary dance is dramatic yet fluid movement. Learn about the use of plies and tendus in contemporary dance, and see how moves can be transitioned with leaps, triplets and runs. Guidance on posture, alignment and centre is provided, as is advice on floor work and the use of space.

Jazz dance videos

Learn about the jazz variations of dance movements and witness techniques such as body waves, body ripples, jazz walks and jazz slides. Isolation exercises are demonstrated for different areas of the body. Stretches and muscle-building exercises are also shown.
