Edgar's video diary for February: transcript - translation from Spanish into English

Hi, this is Edgar again. This is my February diary.

Every time you're just given a class, or talking about anything, also outside the classroom, you're always talking about the thing you do in your country - things we do in Latin America or things ... just the way people think there. So having that opportunity is a great deal.

For example, people here... We think people here are obsessed about weather. So when I was teaching them, for example, that we don't have seasons, it was quite difficult for them to understand that, because they kept asking me, 'How's the weather at Christmas?' for example, and I said, 'Well, it's quite the same as being hot here.' So they couldn't understand having a Christmas without snow, for example! And, yes, lots of things for them that are quite different and difficult to understand - that's really interesting to teach.

So far, the experiences have been great, I think. There are lots of things I didn't expect that are really good things; some other not really good things. But anyway, I think it's been a really great experience. And I worked with young people before, so I was not surprised finding maybe some trouble, discipline... Or lots of experiences where I just expected were the way I thought. But then there are some other things... I would say cultural situations that sometimes were difficult to deal with. That's been one of the most tricky things I experienced. Like, how should I try when there's a small problem with discipline, for example? Which things should I say, which things shouldn't I say? How could I try to be really nice and friendly and not to break that relationship between assistants and students.

I think I would like experience outside Venezuela for a couple of years. I would like to become a teacher here in the U.K. or some other parts of Europe, and to gain lots of experience and lots of useful things when I go back to my country. That would be great.
